Council to weigh $6 million in county aid for CB Fox Building redevelopment
Tuesday's agenda also includes a proposed letter urging the governor to keep state environment staff at chromium cleanup meetings.
LOS ALAMOS - The County Council will hold a public hearing Tuesday on putting $6 million from the county's Economic Development Fund to redevelop the former CB Fox Building at 1735 Central Ave., according to the meeting agenda and staff report.
Ordinance 761 would provide a $4 million grant and a $2 million, 10-year loan at zero interest. The $18 million plan calls for small shops, a food court and a 20-room boutique hotel. Staff estimate more than $4.27 million in gross receipts and lodgers' tax revenue over 10 years and 25 full-time-equivalent jobs. The county manager recommends adoption.
Councilors will also consider sending a letter, requested by Chair Randall Ryti, asking Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham to have the New Mexico Environment Department staff and attend stakeholder meetings on the hexavalent chromium plume cleanup. The staff report says the department's absence from recent technical meetings could further delay cleanup milestones.
The agenda also lists possible support for the federal Fix Our Forests Act and consent items doubling on-call engineering contracts to $10 million and approving an employee health amendment of up to $5.1 million.
The 6 p.m. meeting is at Fire Station No. 3 in White Rock and on Zoom.
