Art board sets Fire Station 4 selection dates; conservation money will run short
The Art in Public Places Advisory Board lined up a selection committee for Fire Station 4 artwork at its Oct. 22 meeting.
LOS ALAMOS - The county's Art in Public Places Advisory Board on Oct. 22 named a selection committee to choose artwork for Fire Station 4 and set its meetings for Jan. 28 and May 27, according to the county's video.
Board members Jasmine Stephens and Bryan Fearey are to serve as the artists and Andy Wright as the arts professional, with the fire chief, an architect or engineer and board chair Tim Foley. In January the committee would draft the call for art; in May it would pick five finalists.
Staff liaison Chelsea Ashcraft said conservator Pacific Coast found that "our collection is in good condition." Its latest visit cost $23,112.97, leaving $58,544 on a contract through June 2029. Work on Corky, the pony sculpture at Ashley Pond, was postponed so the senior center's new art gate could get a UV coating. "We chose to take Corky off," she said, which "means that we will be short money at the end of the contract."
Members also agreed a video could stand in for the police lion sculpture's model if it misses the Nov. 19 meeting. No one spoke at public comment, and the board approved its Sept. 24 minutes.
