Public art board to discuss Fire Station 4 art project and conservation work Thursday
Draft minutes from September show a budget of up to $80,001 for the Fire Station 4 artwork, plus at least $20,000 in state funds.
LOS ALAMOS - The county's Art in Public Places Advisory Board will discuss the Fire Station #4 art project and a report on this year's conservation work when it meets at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, according to the posted agenda.
At its Sept. 24 meeting, the board voted 3-0 to let the county and the state pool funding to buy the Fire Station #4 artwork, with a budget of up to $80,001 to cover the state's process plus gross receipts tax, supplemented by at least $20,000 in state funds from using the state's artist-selection process, according to draft minutes up for approval Thursday.
The conservation report includes Pacific Coast Conservation reports on three works. Essence of Dance, Bruce Niemi's 1997 aluminum sculpture outside Mesa Public Library, had its base stripped, sanded and repainted in late August. The Clowns, Susan Dailey's 2002 piece at the library, is in fair condition; the county decided against moving it because of instability in its concrete structure. Two pieces of the White Rock Pottery Project along N.M. 4 were treated in August.
The board will hear working group, staff and chair reports. The meeting is at 1000 Central Ave., Suite 110, and on Zoom.
