NWS: Rain returns to Logan; forecast lists up to about an inch possible Sunday
LOGAN - Rain is in the forecast for the Logan area through the weekend, with the heaviest rain expected Sunday, according to the National Weather Service forecast for the paper's weather point.
NWS lists a 30% chance of rain this afternoon (high near 62), then a chance of rain tonight becoming showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 3 a.m., with an 80% chance of precipitation and a low around 44. Saturday calls for rain likely before 9 a.m. and a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., with a high near 57 and a 70% chance of precipitation.
Saturday night's forecast calls for rain likely, mainly after 3 a.m., a low around 42 and a 70% chance of precipitation, with new precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Sunday's forecast calls for rain all day, a high near 48 and a 100% chance of precipitation, with new precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible. Another quarter to half an inch is possible Sunday night, with a low around 35. Those ranges are the forecast's stated possibilities, not a guaranteed total.
The weather service's Salt Lake City office has issued a flood watch from late Saturday night through Sunday evening, but it covers zones UTZ120-121 and 123-125, 127-131 in southern and central Utah, not the Cache Valley zone that includes Logan, according to the latest NWS Salt Lake City forecast discussion. The discussion says flash flooding potential Sunday is greatest across southern and eastern Utah.
