Lorado Taft path work and Water Survey bus reroute start today on campus
Walkers and cyclists are being rerouted for the rest of the semester; the 24 Link detours through Nov. 3.
CHAMPAIGN - Construction to widen the Lorado Taft shared-use path between Fourth and Sixth streets begins Tuesday, Oct. 27, and will reroute pedestrians, cyclists and scooter riders for the rest of the semester, according to University of Illinois Facilities & Services.
The project adds a new 8-foot section just south of the existing path near Huff Hall, Wymer Hall and the Business Instructional Facility. When it is finished, the south half will be for pedestrians and the north half for bikes and e-scooters, the university said. Work comes in two phases, starting next to Wymer Hall and the Business Instructional Facility.
Facilities & Services recommends that pedestrians use the sidewalk next to Huff Hall and the Business Instructional Facility to reach Gregory Drive, and that cyclists and scooter riders take Fourth or Sixth Street north to Gregory Drive.
Separately, the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District says weekday daytime 24 Link buses will reroute from Oct. 27 through Nov. 3 because of construction at the Water Survey. Buses will enter the Water Survey via Gerty to Griffin, make the first left into the parking lot and return to the regular route onto Kirk, according to the MTD notice.
