U. of I. Senate was scheduled Monday to take up resolution calling for review of Flock license-plate reader contracts
Senators were also scheduled to get a first look Monday at letting some non-tenure-system faculty, instructors and lecturers apply for sabbaticals.
URBANA - The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Senate was scheduled to meet at 3:10 p.m. Monday in the Illini Union and on Zoom, according to the agenda posted on the Senate's website.
Senators were scheduled to act on RS.27.01, a resolution asking campus administrators to review all active contracts with Flock Safety and similar companies, report findings to the Senate and consult Senate committees before signing new ones.
The resolution states that the administration operates 20 Flock license plate readers. It asks for the review to ensure that data gathered on the campus community is not used for immigration enforcement, and it "calls for" the administration to act.
The agenda also listed the first reading of SP.26.01, a proposed statute change that would let non-tenure-system faculty with certain modified professor titles, as well as instructors and lecturers, apply for sabbatical leave. No vote was scheduled Monday; the discussion is meant to shape a later vote, according to the Senate's statutes committee.
