Champaign issues $24.6 million permit for new apartment building at 106 E. John St.

CHAMPAIGN - The City of Champaign has issued a building permit for a new multifamily dwelling at 106 E. John St., with an estimated construction value of $24,576,342, according to the city's building permit report posted Oct. 15.

The Champaign Fire Department's Building Safety Division issued the commercial permit on Oct. 9, the report shows. It was the only project on this week's list, which covers permits for work valued at $250,000 or more.

The report gives no owner, developer, unit count or construction schedule for the project.

The city puts the total value of construction permitted so far in 2026 at $454,445,171.
