Unit 4 on fall break through Oct. 16; Jefferson Middle School tour Saturday
Building tours ahead of the Nov. 3 facilities referendum continue. Kenwood's playground community build is set for Oct. 30 through Nov. 1.
CHAMPAIGN - Champaign Unit 4 School District is on fall break this week, according to the district's online calendar, which lists the break from Oct. 12 through Oct. 16. Oct. 12 is also marked as a fall holiday. Parent-teacher conferences on Oct. 8 and 9 were days with no school for students, the calendar shows.
Families and residents can tour Jefferson Middle School, 1115 Crescent Drive, from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, according to the calendar. In his Oct. 9 newsletter, Superintendent Dr. Geovanny Ponce invited people to "stop by between 1 - 3 p.m." to tour the school and learn about the district's Building Better Schools plan. That plan is the subject of the Nov. 3 facilities referendum. More tours are set at International Prep Academy, 1605 W. Kirby Ave., on Oct. 25 and at Franklin on Nov. 1.
The newsletter also says volunteers will rebuild the Kenwood Elementary playground, which was destroyed by fire this summer, from Oct. 30 through Nov. 1. The district says it is still seeking volunteers and community partners. The new playground is planned with a poured rubber surface, a ramped play structure, shade and musical play elements.
