Unit 4 offers referendum building tour Saturday at Franklin; $192 million question is on the Nov. 3 ballot
The district says the plan would keep debt-service taxes about level. Fall break runs Oct. 12-16.
CHAMPAIGN - Champaign Unit 4 will hold a referendum information tour from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at Franklin STEAM Academy, 817 N. Harris Ave., according to the district's referendum page. More tours are set for Oct. 17 at Jefferson, Oct. 25 at International Prep Academy and Nov. 1 at Franklin.
The Nov. 3 ballot question asks whether the district may issue $192 million in bonds to build a new middle school, renovate Jefferson Middle School, replace Franklin STEAM Academy on its site, tear down International Prep Academy's sixth-through-eighth-grade building and add onto its kindergarten-through-fifth-grade building, improve Garden Hills Academy's geothermal HVAC system and improve special education facilities.
The district lists $153 million for middle schools, $26 million for health and life safety work and $13 million for special education. The district says the plan relies on expiring debt, so that taxpayers would see "approximately no change to current (2026) annual debt service tax levels for 20 years." It says the new middle school will be built on a site to be determined.
Unit 4's calendar lists fall break Oct. 12-16. The next regular board meeting is listed for 5:30 p.m. Oct. 26.
