Willard Airport opens $3 million TSA checkpoint above ticket counters

The new screening area has one lane and room for a second.

SAVOY - University of Illinois-Willard Airport has opened a new Transportation Security Administration checkpoint, the airport announced Oct. 6.

The checkpoint sits in former cafe and conference space above the ticket counters. It has one screening lane and can expand to two when demand calls for it, according to the airport. The $3 million project also widened the area where passengers wait in line and brings the airport up to current TSA layout and safety standards.

Federal infrastructure grants, state funds and local funds paid for the work. "The opening of this new checkpoint is an important milestone for University of Illinois-Willard Airport," said Tim Bannon, the airport's executive director.
