City of Tampa holds its first free repair workshop for household items Friday
Tampa Tinker runs 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at City Center at Hanna Avenue; registration and a photo ID are required, and it's open to city residents only.
TAMPA - City of Tampa staff will help residents try to fix broken household items for free Friday at the city's first Tampa Tinker repair workshop, according to a city news release.
The workshop runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 30 at City Center at Hanna Avenue, 2555 E. Hanna Ave. Each resident may bring one item, and registration for a time slot is required in advance. The event is open only to City of Tampa residents, who must show a photo ID at check-in. The city says repairs aren't guaranteed. Registration was still open early Friday on the event's sign-up page.
Accepted items include lamps, fans, small appliances, vacuums, toasters, clocks, toys, hand tools, furniture that can be carried inside, and bikes needing flat-tire or gear and brake fixes. Smartphones, computers, CRT TVs, gas-powered items, medical and safety devices and recalled items are not accepted. Each registered item is reviewed, and the city may decline any it finds unsafe.
Tampa Solid Waste and the Logistics and Asset Management department are running the event, the city said.
Repair is one of the most impactful ways residents can reduce waste.
