Tampa police step up DUI patrols for Halloween weekend after downtown underage drinking operation
Fourteen people were referred to an arrest diversion program after an overnight operation downtown; expanded patrols begin citywide Friday night.
TAMPA - The Tampa Police Department began enhanced DUI patrols overnight heading into Halloween weekend, including an underage drinking operation in downtown Tampa, the city said in a news release Friday.
Fourteen people were referred to an arrest diversion program as a result of the underage enforcement operation, according to the release. The department said the goal is to head off dangerous situations before they escalate, not simply to penalize people.
Starting Friday night, Oct. 30, the patrols expand to neighborhoods and popular entertainment districts across the city. Additional officers, in uniform and in plain clothes, will focus on impaired driving and reckless behavior, the department said.
As you make plans to celebrate, remember that your decisions have consequences.
Police urged people to plan ahead, celebrate responsibly and report suspicious behavior. In an emergency, call 911; the department's non-emergency line is 813-231-6130.
