Average 30-year mortgage rate dips to 7.24%
Both the 30-year and 15-year fixed averages fell 0.08 point this week but remain well above last year's levels.
TAMPA - The average 30-year fixed mortgage rate fell to 7.24% this week, down from 7.32% a week earlier, according to Freddie Mac's weekly Primary Mortgage Market Survey released Thursday. A year ago, the average stood at 6.17%.
The 15-year fixed rate averaged 6.60%, down from 6.68% last week and up from 5.41% a year ago. The survey reports national averages, not Tampa-specific rates.
For buyers, the weekly drop is small. On a $300,000, 30-year fixed loan, monthly principal and interest come to about $2,044 at this week's average, roughly $16 less than at last week's rate, by Hear Ye Tampa's own calculation. Taxes, insurance and fees are not included.
