Tampa's 3.5-mile Green Spine cycle track is complete
The final stretch on W. Cass Street finished in September; a small FDOT segment near N. 15th Street is expected in the spring.
TAMPA - The Green Spine, a 3.5-mile protected two-way bike route across the city, is now complete, the City of Tampa announced Oct. 22.
The route runs east-west from North Hyde Park through downtown and Ybor City into East Tampa, as far as E. 21st Street, with three-foot raised concrete dividers between cyclists and drivers. The final piece, called Phase 2A, runs along W. Cass Street between N. Howard and N. Rome avenues. Construction began last October and wrapped up in September, the city said.
Nearly 80% of the project's roughly $8 million cost was covered by grants, with the remaining $1.6 million from city funds. The city's bike counter at N. Boulevard and Cass Street recorded nearly 80,000 cyclists in 2025 and nearly 60,000 so far this year.
Mayor Jane Castor said the track has "helped revitalize our urban communities."
A small segment near N. 15th Street will be finished by a Florida Department of Transportation contractor, likely in the spring, after its interstate work, the city said.
