Justice Department launches Super Intelligence Task Force
DOJ-SITF will coordinate criminal and civil AI enforcement and link to the White House SI effort.
The U.S. Department of Justice on Nov. 5 announced the Super Intelligence Task Force, or DOJ-SITF, according to an Office of Public Affairs press release.
Super intelligence, as used here, means highly advanced AI systems the government says could be misused by foreign states, criminal groups or others for fraud and other crimes. The task force is led by Associate Attorney General Stanley Woodward and Associate Deputy Attorney General Stephen Weiss and is meant to keep U.S. leadership in the technology from being compromised by unlawful use.
Attorney General Todd Blanche said the group will partner with Super Intelligence Force Chair Jay Clayton. Officials said DOJ will keep prosecuting illegal SI use against taxpayers, critical infrastructure and national security, and push companies toward stronger internal controls so systems behave as intended.
