DeepSeek releases free code for an AI coding agent that takes work from team chats

The Chinese AI company calls it a research prototype, not an official product.

DeepSeek, a Chinese AI company, has posted the code for an experimental coding agent on GitHub, a website where programmers share code, under a free license.

An AI agent is a program that carries out tasks, not just answers questions.  DeepSeek's dsh-superagent watches one GitHub project and, if set up, Feishu, a workplace chat app from TikTok owner ByteDance.  When an approved team member asks for work, it opens a task, does it in its own workspace and replies in the same conversation, for example with a proposed code change, DeepSeek says.

Many programmers now use assistants such as Anthropic's Claude Code, which DeepSeek is aiming at, Bloomberg reported, according to The Next Web.  DeepSeek's agent works for a whole team, and a web page lists only what needs a person.  "Take as little human attention as possible," its guide says.

DeepSeek calls the code a research prototype, "not an official DeepSeek product," and tells users to review it first.
