Apple's new MacBook Pro adds touch screen and new OLED display
The Cupertino company's 14- and 16-inch laptops start at $2,899 and go on sale Nov. 6.

Apple, based in Cupertino, unveiled a new MacBook Pro laptop with a screen it calls the PROLED XDR display and, for the first time on a Mac, a touch screen, the company said in its newsroom.
The screen uses tandem OLED, which stacks two layers of pixels that make their own light instead of using a backlight. Apple said it reaches up to 2,000 nits of brightness, a measure of how bright a screen gets, and refreshes up to 120 times a second for smoother motion. The laptops also get Dynamic Island, the notch-area display for alerts first used on iPhone.
The 14- and 16-inch models run on Apple's M5 Pro or M5 Max chips, hold up to 128GB of memory and 16TB of storage, and last up to 24 hours on a charge, Apple said.
Prices start at $2,899 for the 14-inch M5 Pro model and $3,399 for the 16-inch, or $2,749 and $3,199 with education pricing. M5 Max models start at $4,499 and $4,799. Pre-orders opened Oct. 28, and the laptops arrive in stores Friday, Nov. 6.
