Pleasanton’s 10x Genomics launches an AI agent that analyzes lab data from plain-English questions

Sentira Single Cell, built on Anthropic’s Claude, aims to let biologists skip writing analysis code.

10x Genomics, a Pleasanton company that sells lab instruments for studying cells, on Nov. 2 launched an AI agent that analyzes researchers’ data when they ask questions in plain English.  The product, Sentira Single Cell, runs on Anthropic’s Claude AI models, the company said in a press release.

10x’s Chromium instruments measure which genes are active in each of thousands of individual cells, a method called single-cell analysis.  Scientists use it to see, for example, how tumor cells differ from healthy ones.  Making sense of the results usually means writing computer code, often with help from a specialist in bioinformatics, the field that uses software to analyze biological data.

With Sentira, a researcher types a question, or asks the agent to suggest one.  An AI agent is software that plans and carries out multi-step tasks, not just answers a question.  It drafts an analysis plan for the scientist to review and change, runs it on 10x’s cloud computers, and saves the steps and code in an editable notebook so others can check or repeat the work.

The questions themselves aren't new, but being able to ask them in natural language changes how fast we can get answers.

Sentira Single Cell is available now with pay-as-you-go pricing and free starter credits, 10x said.
