Obama, Harris, Newsom and Bay Area teams congratulate the WNBA champion Valkyries

SAN FRANCISCO - Congratulations poured in on social media Saturday night, Oct. 31, after the Golden State Valkyries won the WNBA championship.  Former President Barack Obama wrote on X:  "Ballhalla was rocking all season, and this team was fun to watch.  Enjoy the celebration."

Leaders

Former Vice President Kamala Harris wrote that the team had "shown remarkable grit and determination on the court."  Gov. Gavin Newsom posted:  "You're making California proud."

San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie wrote that the team had "given San Francisco another team to love" and that fans "sold out Ballhalla every single night."  He added, "we're so excited to celebrate this incredible team."

Bay Area teams

The Golden State Warriors, who share an owner with the Valkyries, posted:  "Congrats, @valkyries family."  The San Francisco Giants called it "BEDLAM IN BALLHALLA."  The 49ers and San Jose Sharks also posted congratulations.

The San Jose Earthquakes, who won their own game earlier that day, wrote that the "whole bay is celebrating with you."  The San Francisco Police Department and BART also cheered the team online.

Basketball stars

Former NBA star Pau Gasol wrote:  "Well deserved Champs."  WNBA great Lisa Leslie called it "an amazing 7 game series" and congratulated both teams.

Around the world

In France, the national basketball teams' official account celebrated Gabby Williams, Janelle Salaün and Aminata Gueye, the three French players on the Valkyries.  NBA France posted a photo of the three with the trophy.
