Utah Valley men's basketball opens season with 84-63 win over Western Colorado

OREM - Utah Valley University's men's basketball team opened its 2026-27 season with an 84-63 win over Western Colorado on Monday night at the UCCU Center, according to the official box score. The Wolverines led 50-34 at halftime and never trailed. Attendance was 1,607.

Isaac Davis scored a game-high 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting. Dominick Nelson added 16, and Braden Housley, Isaac Hawkins, Tyler Weaver and Sherman Weatherspoon IV each had eight. Petar Strugar led the Mountaineers with 15 points.

Utah Valley shot 49.2% from the field to Western Colorado's 31.7%, forced 28 turnovers and outscored the Division II Mountaineers 52-24 in the paint and 30-9 on fast-break points. The win extended the Wolverines' regular-season home winning streak to 28 games, according to UVU Athletics.

"Good first win for us. Good to be back on the court with our fans," coach Todd Phillips said in the school's game release.

Utah Valley (1-0) plays at Weber State in Ogden on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. The game is on ESPN+ and ESPN The Fan (103.9 FM).
