Timpanogos School District moves sixth grade to middle school, ninth to high school in 2027-28
LINDON - Timpanogos School District elementary schools will serve kindergarten through fifth grade, middle schools sixth through eighth, and high schools ninth through 12th starting in the 2027-28 school year, after a unanimous board vote Oct. 21, the district announced.
The change moves sixth graders out of elementary buildings and ninth graders onto high school campuses. The district said the ninth-grade move gives students earlier access to graduation credits, career and technical courses, Advanced Placement and concurrent enrollment, and that freeing elementary space will help balance class sizes.
Making this decision now gives our school leaders and teachers the time they need to prepare for a smooth and effective implementation. - Superintendent Dr. Joe Jensen
The district held feedback meetings on its grade configuration study Oct. 12 and 13 at Orem, Mountain View and Timpanogos high schools in Orem, according to a district notice. The district said it is still weighing boundary changes and building use, has sent families a Parent Support Toolkit and takes questions at timpsd.org. Hearings on possible closures and boundary changes are set for Nov. 4.
