Unofficial turnout as of 5:58 a.m. CT Nov. 4, per the Nebraska Secretary of State. These numbers can change until the canvass.

OMAHA - Douglas County voters cast 213,927 ballots in Tuesday's general election, or 57.61% of the county's 371,321 registered voters, according to unofficial figures on the Nebraska Secretary of State's turnout page. That is a bigger share than voted in the 2022 governor's race and close to the 2018 rate, according to a Daily News calculation from the state's official canvass totals.

For neighbors, that means more people had a say this year than four years ago. About 20,300 more Douglas County ballots were cast than in 2022, when 193,653 of 359,135 registered voters took part, or 53.92%, according to the 2022 canvass book. In 2018, 205,953 of 356,908 voted, or 57.70%, according to the 2018 official results. Those two rates and the ballot gap are Daily News calculations from canvass totals.

Statewide, 747,555 of 1,265,162 registered voters cast ballots, or 59.09%, with 1,309 of 1,322 precincts fully reporting and 12 partly in, the Secretary of State's results page shows. That compares with 54.93% in 2022 and 57.95% in 2018, a Daily News calculation from the same canvass books. In all three elections, Douglas County's rate trailed the statewide rate.

Turnout counts ballots, not people's reasons. The state's turnout page lists ballots and registered voters by county and precinct. It does not report who voted by age or party.

Next comes the canvass, the official review that checks and certifies the count. The Douglas County canvassing board meets about three weeks after the election, the Election Commission says on its results page. The state Board of State Canvassers meets Nov. 30 at 11:30 a.m. to certify results, according to the Secretary of State's elections calendar. Questions go to the Douglas County Election Commission at (402) 444-8683, 12220 W. Center Road, near Bel Air Plaza (Election Commission).

How we checked this: We read the Secretary of State's results and turnout pages Nov. 4, 2026, at 6:54 a.m. CT; they said results were last updated at 5:58 a.m. CT. Douglas County's ballots cast and registered voters come from the state's turnout data feed behind that page, read at 6:55 a.m. CT, and match its 57.61% county rate. We opened the Election Commission's pages at 6:54 a.m. CT and the state's elections calendar at 6:55 a.m. CT, and recomputed the 2018 and 2022 rates from the canvass totals.
