Mayor Higgins names Maca Casado chief of staff, Marta Viciedo chief strategy officer
Both were already senior advisers in the mayor's office and take on larger roles, the City said.
MIAMI - Mayor Eileen Higgins has named Maca Casado her chief of staff and Marta Viciedo her chief strategy officer, the City of Miami said in a release published Monday.
Both were already on the mayor's senior team. Casado had been senior advisor and communications director; Viciedo had been senior advisor and director of strategic initiatives and economic growth.
As chief of staff, Casado will lead the Mayor's Office, coordinate the mayor's senior team and work with City leadership and employees on the administration's priorities, according to the release. It lists her past work as vice president of communications at Operativo, coalition media director and national senior spokesperson for the Harris-Walz presidential campaign, and communications roles at the Democratic National Committee, the Florida Department of Agriculture, President Biden's 2020 campaign and former U.S. Rep. Donna Shalala.
Viciedo will lead the mayor's signature initiatives, which the release names as Elevate Small Business, Develop to Serve and permitting reform. She was previously Miami director at the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and co-founded Urban Impact Lab and Transit Alliance Miami, the City said.
Higgins said in the release that the appointments "will strengthen our ability to lead with urgency, accountability, and a focus on results." The release did not give salaries or say who held the chief of staff post before.
