Lab materials leader Kester Clarke named ASM International fellow
The honor recognizes his contributions to metallurgy and materials science across industry, government and academia.
LOS ALAMOS - Kester Clarke, a group leader in Los Alamos National Laboratory's Materials Science and Technology division, has been named a fellow of ASM International, an association of materials engineers, scientists, technicians, educators and students, the Lab said Oct. 28.
The honor cites his "exceptional contributions to metallurgy and materials science across industry, government, and academia," including mentoring the next generation of workers.
Clarke leads the Structure/Property Relations group, which studies how processing and structure affect how materials perform under extreme conditions that combine radiation and high strain rates. The Lab said the work underpins the safety and reliability of the nation's nuclear stockpile and advanced energy systems.
Clarke previously worked as an industry engineer and was the Forging Industry Research and Educational Foundation Professor at the Colorado School of Mines, where he earned a doctorate in metallurgical and materials engineering.
