Ozone air quality alert issued for Friday in Oklahoma City metro, including Cleveland County
NORMAN - High ozone levels are expected Friday, Oct. 23, across the Oklahoma City metro area, prompting an Air Quality Alert for the day, according to a statement from the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality relayed Thursday afternoon by the National Weather Service office in Norman.
The weather service lists Cleveland, Oklahoma, Canadian, Logan, Lincoln, Grady and McClain counties in the alert.
The state agency recommends that people with heart or breathing conditions cut back on physical exertion and time outdoors. It asks everyone to drive less by carpooling, riding the bus or skipping unneeded trips, to avoid refueling in the morning and early afternoon, to avoid two-stroke engines such as lawn mowers and weed trimmers, and to limit outdoor burning.
Hourly ozone updates are available from DEQ at 405-702-4100, and the current air quality map is at airnow.gov, the statement says.
