Krannert Center cancels Michael Yeung's Nov. 1 concert; competition winners play Sunday Salon instead
URBANA - Krannert Center for the Performing Arts has canceled percussionist Michael Yeung's concert, set for 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, in Foellinger Great Hall. The center's event page says Yeung is unable to perform "due to unforeseen circumstances."
In its place, Krannert is offering a new Sunday Salon program the same afternoon, listed for 3 p.m. in Foellinger Great Hall. It features cellist Maxwell Schultz and pianist Ana Huerta, the second- and third-place winners of the center's 2026 Debut Artists Competition.
Huerta, a pianist from Spain who is working on a doctorate in piano performance at the University of Illinois, opens with Schumann's Piano Sonata No. 1 in F-sharp minor, Op. 11. After intermission, Schultz, a Chicago-area cellist pursuing an Artist Diploma at Illinois, plays Brahms' Cello Sonata in D Major, Op. 78, with pianist Chanmi Lee, an Illinois doctoral student.
Neither page says what the Sunday Salon tickets cost or what happens to tickets bought for the Yeung concert. Krannert Center is at 500 S. Goodwin Ave., Urbana.
This updates our Oct. 24 events listing, which said Yeung would play Krannert on Nov. 1.
