Illinois' David Mirkovic named AP preseason All-American
The sophomore forward drew 24 votes; the Illini host Baylor in an exhibition Friday.
CHAMPAIGN - Illinois sophomore forward David Mirkovic has been voted to the Associated Press Preseason All-America Team, according to an Illinois Athletics release Wednesday. He received 24 votes, the fourth-highest total among the five players named, the release shows.
The release said it is his second preseason All-America honor, following a first-team pick by CBS Sports. He was also named to the preseason All-Big Ten Team.
Last season Mirkovic was third on the team in scoring and second in rebounding and assists, averaging 13.3 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists, according to the release. His 297 rebounds set the Illinois freshman record, passing the 272 Kofi Cockburn grabbed in 2019-20. He was named to the NCAA All-Region Team as Illinois won the South Regional, and to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team.
Illinois hosts Baylor in an exhibition Friday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m., according to the team's schedule.
