Krannert Center hosts free Anida Yoeu Ali workshop for non-dancers Oct. 16

URBANA - Artist Anida Yoeu Ali will lead a free Improvisers Exchange Workshop on performance for non-dancers at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, in Krannert Center's Orchestra Rehearsal Room, according to the center's event page.

The workshop is open to all and aimed at people who don't consider themselves dancers or have little performance experience, the page says. In the studio session, participants will work on presence and on turning everyday gestures and actions into movement and performance, using the elements of time, space and energy.

Ali, an interdisciplinary artist born in Cambodia and raised in Chicago, is based in Tacoma and co-founded the media lab Studio Revolt, according to the page. The program is supported by Krannert Center and the University of Illinois School of Music.
