CHAMPAIGN - The Champaign and Urbana park districts and Market Place Mall hold their free Halloween Fun Fest from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, at the mall, 2000 N. Neil St., according to the Champaign Park District's calendar. It includes trick-or-treating through the mall for children 12 and under and a costume contest; the Urbana Park District says children 2 to 12 can enter with an adult and will be judged by age.

The Champaign Park District's Scairie Prairie Bash runs 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at Prairie Farm, 2202 W. Kirby Ave., with trick-or-treating, hayrack rides, games, music and food. Admission is $5 a person, children under 2 are free, and every participant must register.

Earlier Tuesday, from 10 to 11 a.m., the Champaign County Forest Preserve District's free Growing Up in the Preserves program at the Homer Lake Natural Playscape invites preschoolers ages 3 to 6 and their families to learn how an oak tree changes through the year; the program is entirely outdoors. On Oct. 17 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Kids at KAM offers free hands-on art activities and a scavenger hunt for children 3 and older at Krannert Art Museum.
