BOISE - Construction is underway at Liberty Park off Emerald Street on the Central Bench to replace the oldest playground in Boise Parks and Recreation's inventory with accessible play equipment and surfacing, the city said Nov. 5.

The project also includes updated seating, landscaping, a custom playground communication board and a new permanent restroom. The community selected a Garrett Parks + Play design with a red, white and blue theme. The project includes more than $2 million in improvements, funded by impact fees and capital dollars approved by the City Council plus a $627,000 Land and Water Conservation Fund grant from the State of Idaho.

Construction fencing is installed, the aging playground has been removed and the surrounding area is closed to the public; baseball fields remain open. Stroth General is the contractor. Completion is expected by next summer (2027).
